David Blake

Managing Director

Thanks for taking a moment to look at our microsite and more importantly giving us the opportunity to tell you more about our ambitions and what you would need to bring to be the best person to make what is an essential contribution to creating a successful, vibrant and sustainable City.

The Council has a clear vision for its future, set out in our City Plan 2016-2021, which has the commitment and support of the leaders of our three political groups.

The City has already been described as ‘ahead of the game’, including flagship developments such as our prestigious City Library, the Hive; our new competition standard swimming pool and exciting Cathedral Square retail development, but there is a lot more for us to do.

Worcester is a vibrant and growing community and place and the major urban extension of the City lies at the heart of the South Worcestershire Development Plan, agreed and adopted in partnership with Malvern Hills and Wychavon District Councils.  We therefore need to ensure the development of an infrastructure that meets the needs of our citizens and further develop a first class environment for business growth that encourages greater and high added value investment.

This exciting opportunity arises from my recent promotion to the post of Managing Director and therefore, I am very clear about how crucial the role is to the future of our City.  If you are the successful candidate, this means you can be certain of my support, but I can also reassure you that you will be given the space to exert your own strategic leadership and influence in order to achieve our overall goals and objectives.

Guild HallIf your experience and passion for place shaping can be clearly evidenced and includes a track record of achievement in stimulating and delivering economic growth, attracting major investment, urban and spatial planning and wider infrastructure development, then you will have ticked our first box.   However, as an individual you will need to possess an optimistic outlook, have a strategic perspective combined with an eye for detail and most of all, be driven by the delivery of outcomes that make a real difference to places and the people and communities they are shaped to benefit.

In addition to the above, if you can demonstrate a real depth of understanding of the challenges facing the sector and the personal characteristics which evidence your potential to success in this role, then we’d love to hear from you.
